We're Jojo and Jezz. We love plants, animals and are fascinated by a wide range of natural peoples.
After our design study, we were looking for ways we can use our skills for something that may have a positive impact. The result is the small brand "Nature Nerds".
Today we are looking for alternative materials and want to promote a plastic-free environment. In our shop you will find some sustainable products. Through blog articles and social media, we want to give thoughts to be thought. For mindful and conscious interaction with yourself and the environment.
If you like what we do or there is also a small nature nerd in you, then we are happy to stay in touch and support each other.

Why should you buy plastic-free dental floss?
Conventional dental floss is made of plastic. Deceptive, because the term flossing says something different.
Let's look at the numbers: Let's say everyone uses a 12 inch piece of dental floss per day. At approx. 80 million people in Germany make this 24000 km per day. This makes approx. 8.7 million kilometres of dental floss per year and only in Germany. We could wrap the soil 220 times.
Plastic is not sustainable. Much of them lands in nature and in the seas.
Why did we choose real silk?
Commercial floss is now made almost exclusively from polyethylene and polyamide. But plastic is a no-go for us. That's why we have been looking for alternatives.
What about bioplastics?
Unfortunately, organic plastics are not really organic. In most cases, they rot as badly as their fossil colleagues and are not recyclable. In addition, plants that could have been used for making food.
We don't want to devil organic plastics, it's a step in the right direction and continue researching. But the status quo is not yet satisfactory and therefore no option for us.
Perhaps cotton?
Unfortunately, cotton is probably the most polluted plant in the world. We would have given the cotton a chance, but the fibres are too coarse and not strong enough. The threads tear and are too thick for tight interdental spaces.
We understand that real silk is not vegan. However, it is the most sustainable alternative at the moment. All other yarns we have tested are strong or fine enough. That's why we chose real silk.
